RAM Clutches’ modest beginnings date back to 1972. From the back room of an OEM clutch rebuilding operation in Canton, OH, John Norcia and his then partner, Ray Bickar, began designing and building better race clutches for a group of local competitors, who were fed up and demoralized with their clutch performance. At the heart of this program lay the radically new RAM three-paddle ‘Cleaning Lady’ clutch disc. Until this time most racing clutches were constructed of organic materials, which provided neither the durability nor the consistency needed for competition. Though Ram forged ahead with a new poly-encapsulated spring design—pioneered and patented in 1978—the three-paddle disc evolved into the current six-paddle design, and continues to be reintroduced by various clutch specialists long after its original introduction in 1976!

Today with the resurgence of factory muscle cars, RAM is heavily involved in providing clutch solutions such as the Street Dual and hydraulics systems that allow for major modifications to the vehicle, yet still provide good street driveability, which is the premise today for all RAM Street-Strip clutch systems.

The 1974 Camaro was a Second Generation F-Body Camaro, spanning from years 1970-1981. 1974 included the Z28 Coupe, Type LT Coupe, and Standard Coupe. 1974 marked the first major facelift of the second gen Camaros, with new front and rear aluminum bumpers, a body-color fascia above the front bumper, new taillights, a forward sloping grille, and the model length growing by seven inches. This was the first time that the Rally Sport option was not made available in the Camaro’s run. New fuel tanks increased capacity from 18 to 21 gallons, radial tires were made available for the first time, wear sensors were added to front brakes and ball joints, and keying was modified. 1974 Camaros were the only models to be equipped with seat-belt interlocks, as mandated by Federal regulation, which required fastened seat belts before the engine would start. The Type LT saw new fabrics for seats, changed interior detailing, and added sound insulation throughout the interior.
