Eckler's Hand Laminated or Press Molded Fiberglass Body Parts

Choose from Hand Laminated or Press Molded to repair your fiberglass to near original condition!

The hand laminating process begins with three mils of gel coat sprayed into a female mold to create a smooth outer surface. Next, resin is painted by hand onto the gel coat followed by the "layering in" of three layers of mat and resin. The mat and resin are carefully rolled out with a hand roller to eliminate air bubbles and to assure uniformity. This process allows the creation of unique parts like the one piece front end which is easier to install than the multi-piece units from the factory. This time honored system combined with the use of only automotive grade resins and gel coat produces a beautifully smooth, strong and easy to sand part.

Eckler's Press molded parts are made with a huge hydraulic press which holds large male and female steel tools (known as the molds). Fiberglass mat and resin is placed between the tools and is pressed together under extremely high pressure and heat. This process allows the production of high volumes of parts that are perfectly uniform in thickness and that are smooth on both sides. Press molded parts do not have a gel coat finish though. Parts can also be manufactured using low pressure press molding. This method takes a precisely cut fiberglass mat and places it into a two-piece closed mold. Resin is injected into the mold and allowed to cure. This method also produces a smooth surface on both sides of the part.

Rick’s Camaros is your one-stop shop for 1981 Camaro parts. The 1981 Camaro was a Second Generation F-Body Camaro, spanning from years 1970-1981. 1981 included the Sport Coupe, Z28 Coupe, and Berlinetta Coupe. 1981 marked the final year of second gen Camaros, where appearance changes were limited to minor color and trim variations. New options this year included halogen headlights and locking wheel cover locks for the Berlinetta’s standard wire wheel covers. The standard Delco Freedom II battery featured a new low weight design which was more durable and less susceptible to vibration damage. The Z28 continued to feature the functional rear-facing hood scoop introduced the previous year, and the functional side fender ports for exhaust of engine compartment. All 1981 Camaros were equipped with Chevrolet’s “advanced computer command control” engine management system. Power brakes and space saver spare tires became standard in 1981. Rally Sport models were also dropped this year, and would not reappear for several years. In addition to carrying 2nd Generation 1981 Camaro parts, Rick’s Camaros has parts for all Camaro models available. We have all the parts and accessories you need to help restore your Generation Two 1981 Camaro, at the best prices! Trust Ricks for all of your restoration and replacement needs for your racer, show car, street rod, or daily driver.
