RAM Clutches’ modest beginnings date back to 1972. From the back room of an OEM clutch rebuilding operation in Canton, OH, John Norcia and his then partner, Ray Bickar, began designing and building better race clutches for a group of local competitors, who were fed up and demoralized with their clutch performance. At the heart of this program lay the radically new RAM three-paddle ‘Cleaning Lady’ clutch disc. Until this time most racing clutches were constructed of organic materials, which provided neither the durability nor the consistency needed for competition. Though Ram forged ahead with a new poly-encapsulated spring design—pioneered and patented in 1978—the three-paddle disc evolved into the current six-paddle design, and continues to be reintroduced by various clutch specialists long after its original introduction in 1976!
Today with the resurgence of factory muscle cars, RAM is heavily involved in providing clutch solutions such as the Street Dual and hydraulics systems that allow for major modifications to the vehicle, yet still provide good street driveability, which is the premise today for all RAM Street-Strip clutch systems.

The 1986 Camaro was a Third Generation F-Body Camaro, spanning from years 1982-1992. 1986 included the Sport Coupe, Z28 Sport Coupe, IROC-Z Coupe, and Berlinetta. With the 4-speed manual transmission being discontinued, all models had 5-speed manual transmissions as base equipment; however the 305ci, 190hp Z28-only option required automatic transmission. All Sport Coupe models came with upgraded sport suspension, styled wheels with trim rings, raise black lettered tires, retuned exhaust with dual tail pipes, black sport mirrors, revised exterior trim, power steering and brakes, and AM radio. While the Berlinetta was available at the beginning of 1986 production, it was discontinued after suffering from a controversial instrument panel setup. New options for all 1986 Camaros included fog lamps that were included with the IROC-Z package, an automatic inside rearview mirror, and central high-mount stop lamps to comply with federal regulations. All exterior paint colors had new codes due to a new base-coat, clear-coat paint process.
