The reverse lockout linkage system on your 1969  Camaro was used as early model to prevent auto theft, by requiring that the car be in "Park" for automatics and "Reverse" for manual transmissions in order to remove the key from your ignition. As such, without the necessary components of the linkage system, for example the lower or upper rods, the ignition switch will not go to the lock position and your key will not come out when rotating clockwise. In simple terms, the lockout linkage will lock your steering wheel when put in "Park" or "Reverse."
