Tri-5s at The Movies

If you go onto the Internet Movie Cars Database to check out Tri-5s at the movies, you’ll be there all day! (We've provided a link at the bottom of this story, just in case you've got the time!)

We’ll share the 4 most memorable ones here (in our humble opinion anyways). Feel free to let us know your favs!

1973’sĀ American GraffitiĀ starred (among others) Richard Dreyfuss, Ron Howard, Paul Le Mat, Harrison Ford and Suzanne Somers. The black ’55 Chevy in this film was a re-work of the same car used in Two-Lane Blacktop.

Two-Lane BlacktopĀ from 1971, starring James Taylor, Dennis Wilson, Warren Oates and Laurie Bird. One tough ’55 that sports the meanest hood scoop of all time.

Introducing the Fifth Generation Corvette!

For the C5’s introductoryĀ year (1997), Chevrolet was intent on spelling everything out in plain English. This 2 page spread print ad was written by none other than David Hill, the Chief Corvette Engineer at the time. The very wordy ad touts all the new car’s attributes– from its all-new 5.7L aluminum engine (now rated at 345 hp) to its state-of-the-art hydroformed perimeter frame. Easy to see why Chevy executed this ad: they ā€œChanged a Classicā€, as they state in the ad’s second paragraph.

Final Sinkhole Corvette Found!

As of last week, seven of the eight Corvettes which fell into aĀ sinkholeĀ that opened up in National Corvette Museum had been recovered, but one car, theĀ C5 Z06 Mallett Hammer, was still nowhere to be found. The car was one of the first to fall in the sinkhole, and has been buried under rocks and debris the entire time the team has been searching for it. Thankfully, after almost two months of searching, the construction crews stumbled upon the Mallett Hammer Monday evening.

Predictably, the Mallett Hammer appears to be in the worst shape of all the Corvettes which fell victim to the hole. The Corvette Museum was only able to photograph the cars underside, as the rest of the car is completely buried under rocks and dirt. Teams attempting to extract the car have been pouring water into the hole to try and make mud, which is easier to vacuum up out of the hole than dirt. The rocks on top of the car must also be removed individually to prevent the debris from shifting and re-burying the car.

New Camaro?

There was a bit of a surprise at the GM Renaissance Center today. As you can see from the photos, there were multiple customĀ Chevrolet CamarosĀ surrounded by a film crew in GM’s circular showroom.

Just what is the occasion? Are theyĀ New York International Auto ShowĀ surprises? Chevy did catch everyone off guard with theĀ Z/28Ā announcement last year, after all. Though they could just as well beĀ movie cars from Transformers 4. But as it turns out, the Camaros seen here are neither official Chevrolet concepts, nor are theyĀ Autobots (or Decepticons).

Teen Drives New Camaro ZL1 Into Texas Pool

If you're Jeremy Clarkson or anyone involved with one of theĀ Cannonball RunĀ movies, driving a car into a swimming pool is hilarious. If you're not, it really isn't.

Anyone looking to go for a swim at a certain Harris County, Texas, community pool was--to say the least--inconvenienced when a brand-new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was driven into it. This moment of schadenfreude is brought to you byĀ txGarage.

2014 Stingray, Ford F-150 Tie For Highest "Made In America Auto Index" Ranking

When it comes to an ā€œAmerican vehicle,ā€ it’s a widely gray area these days. Some Toyotas are made in America. Some Volkswagens are made in America. Oppositely, some Chevrolets that are sold here are made in Korea and Mexico. It’s easy to see that Ā these days it goes beyond where the brand is from, and many will argue that some of the most ā€œAmericanā€ vehicles are Toyotas and Hondas due to their American-made parts content. But according to international business professorĀ Frank DuBois and his annual ā€œMade in America Auto Index,ā€Ā American brand vehicles took this year’s top rankings. And not just any American vehicles, but iconic ones.

Incredible Collection of Chevrolet Convertibles!

Wow!Ā What do you suppose this collection is worth?

This collection belongs to Dennis Albaugh in Ankeny, Iowa, just north of Des Moines.

The personal and private collection consists nothing but Chevrolet convertibles. All years from 1912 to 1975, and Corvette convertibles from 1953 to 1975.

That’s a Chevy convertible from every year of manufacture except 1939. The reason? Chevy didn't make a convertible in '39, and ended its convertible line in 1975!

New Camaro Z/28 vs. Porsche 911 GT3: Track Day Shootout!

We're in aĀ Barber MotorsportsĀ Park garage in Birmingham, Ala., on a brisk morning with pro race-car driver Andy Pilgrim -- along with theĀ Chevrolet Camaro Z/28Ā andĀ Porsche 911 GT3, the latest, road course-focused street cars for 2014.Ā Cadillac RacingĀ pays Pilgrim to pilot aĀ CTS-V coupeĀ in theĀ Pirelli World Challenge series, but today he is our hired gun to give us top-level feedback around the challenging 2.38-mile circuit.

Pilgrim's résumé boasts wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring, Petit Le Mans and the Rolex 24 at Daytona, in addition to numerous Le Mans podium finishes. And while he has bagged five professional sports-car championships, it's his articulate, detailed feedback about a car's behavior at the limit that's more valuable to us on this day.

Seventh Corvette Dug Out of Museum Sinkhole

RememberĀ the eight Corvettes that fell into a sinkholeĀ at the National Corvette Museum? How could anyoneĀ notĀ remember? It was evenĀ captured on security video! A few weeks ago,Ā GM AuthorityĀ ran a story on how the excavated cars wereĀ an attraction in their own right, but there were still a few Vettes left in the hole while engineers continued their project.

Now theĀ National Corvette Museum has announced that workers have pulled out the seventh vehicle, a 2009 Corvette convertible in white and red. Its place in Corvette history is that it’s the 1.5-millionth Vette produced since 1953.Ā It was optioned with the 3LT Preferred Equipment Group, Z51 Performance Package, Dual Mode Performance Exhaust, Navigation, 6-Speed Automatic Transmission with Paddle Shift and, of course, the 6.2L V8 engine putting out 430 horsepower.
